Near the turn of the 20th century, a riverboat captain by the name of Joshua John Ward was looking for a better night's sleep during a South Carolina summer. With rope, wood, and a bit of determination, Ward created his first hammock. These humble beginnings would eventually evolve into Pawleys Island Furniture.
